David McGowan was born and raised in Torrance, California and graduated from UCLA with a degree in psychology. He has been a political researcher and writer for many years now and is the author of several books, including Programmed to Kill: The Politics of Serial Murder, and his latest and most popular work to date, Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & The Dark Heart of the Hippie Dream, published in April 2014.
His most recent project is a fresh look at of one of the most poorly understood chapters in American history, the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. McGowan has also, since 1990, run a small contracting business in the greater Los Angeles area. He is the proud father of three adult daughters.
