Born in Wiesbaden Germany, as a US military dependent, McKinney has witnessed the impact of local broadcasting on many different communities and cultures from a young age. This in part, led him to make the feature film Corporate FM when he began to see the resource of radio in the United States lose local ownership. He has spoken at the National Press Club about the repercussions of consolidation in radio. He’s an ardent supporter of local broadcasting and helps with fundraising at nonprofit stations. Today, he’s a working filmmaker who lives in Kansas City Missouri with his son and 2 cats.
